The mandate of this project was to design a book jacket for an assigned artist at random draw. We were also to design multiple spreads that would be found in the book.
Seo Young-Deok is a Korean artist who makes life size sculptures of the human body out of recycled chains. He manipulates each piece in order to create beautiful representations of the human body. He uses chains in order to capture the ongoing anxiety and pressures of the modern human. He is a simple man and likes his work to speak for him. Keeping the design minimal helps keep the focus on the life sized sculptures.
With all of this in mind, a very simple yet impactful book cover was designed. With focus on the pieces themselves, the layouts of the pages also reflect a soft spoken man with stunning works of art.
